On Saturday 24th October IPM Helena Cooke (as Deputy Master) represented the Coopers at the MRT Training Dinner and presented the Worshipful Company of Coopers' Award for Championing MRT in the Community. The award went to Keith Owen who had set up a new training event in his area involving the MRT, St John Ambulance and the wider community. The dinner was part of the country wide MRT training weekend.
Helena reported that "it was an absolute privilege to meet the teams from all over England who work as volunteers as Rapid Response Units at major events. I don't think that I have ever met a group with so much energy, enthusiasm and commitment. These volunteers also have day jobs which include medical doctors, paramedics, teachers, and even accountants!"
The Coopers involvement with the MRT goes back to 2013 when sadly the son of one of our Livery members died while on MRT duty. The George Bairstow Charitable Trust was launched shortly afterwards by George's parents, Vivian and Maria Bairstow. Part of the money raised was used to fit out a new ambulance with MRT specific kit and insignia – the ambulance is called George.
Two members of the MRT will be at the Mansion House Banquet in November - it will be a great opportunity to speak to them about the work they do.
